Removing citations from a Word document

I am trying to remove a paragraph in a Word document that I have citations in . It seems that the citations from the paragraph are removed as footnotes, but it messes up the following citations numbering. Can someone help me SVP.
  • Which citation style?

If these are really footnotes (as opposed to numeric citations), their numbering is handled entirely by Word.

You definitely don't need to (or even can) do anything other for deleting text & citations than to delete it.
  • This is what I expected would happen, but the Word document deletes a citation and then does not reorder the number of following citations. Therefore, going forward there is a gap in the numbering of my citations. I am using Chicago style.
Thank you for your help in this matter Adam.
  • Yeah, so this is a Word issue. Zotero doesn't have anything to do with Footnote numbering in Word -- I'd start with these suggestions: https://word.tips.net/T005400_Footnotes_Dont_Automatically_Renumber.html
  • I think the problem was that I was in Track Change mode and I had not accepted the change in my document. Once I accepted the deletion, the citation was deleted and the numbering moving forward was corrected. You have saved me hours of despair - thank you so much.
