Error message: "Firefox could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Please ensure that the appropriate Firefox extension is installed, then try again." Extensions Zotero 2.0b7.1 and Zotero OpenOffice Integration 3.0a2 installed in Debian iceweasel (firefox) 3.0.6. Java URE Directory: file://opt/openoffice.org/ure/ and soffice Executable Directory: file://opt/openoffice.org3/program/. Reinstall OpenOffice.org Components was selected (with OpenOffice closed). OpenOffice 3.1.1 (OOO310m19 Build:9420) reports Zotero OpenOffice Integration 3.0a1 installed.

    Yes I have sun-java6-(bin, jre, plugin) (6-12-1) installed and not the icedtea plugin. I installed the OpenOffice extension as recommended on [http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation]. In order to install the Zotero extension into OpenOffice it was necessary to specify file://opt/openoffice.org/ure/ and file:///opt/openoffice.org3/program/. Notice number of '/'s after file: is different. Any other combination would not install the tool bar in OpenOffice. The ensuing error message resulted from clicking "Set Document Preferences" in the OpenOffice document. Also of note is the difference in the version number in the Zotero OpenOffice Integration extension installed in the browser (3.0a2) and that reported by the extension manager in OpenOffice (3.0a1).

    Resolved! Removed Zotero via the extension manager in OpenOffice and deleted all sub-directories related to Zotero in my .openoffice.org/3 home directory. Then changed Java URE Directory to file:///opt/openoffice.org3/basis-link/ure-link/share/java/ (soffice executable directory remained as stated in previous post) and reinstalled openoffice components via browser add-ons and it now works.
