how to import from a textfile?

hey,

trying to import my refworks bibliography. tried exportng in various formats but the immports always fail (no translator for the given file). What can I do to fix this situation?

thanks,

matt
  • We're working on various import options, including from RefWorks. If you can export from another citation manager to an RIS file, that is generally working the best right now (you can then just use "import" and then select the RIS file).
  • Similarly, I would love to import my Endnote files to Zotero, either directly or by way of Endnote's export files. Endnote 8 gives me four export options: txt, rtf, html, and xml. Attempting to import any of these is currently met with the "no translator found" error message. In any case, I'm excited about the possibility of Zotero's one day being able add references to Word. It will be nice to get out from underneath Endnote's expensive upgrade cycles.
  • @joshuarust: There is a "RefMan (RIS)" export style available for Endnote. This may be hidden (but you can select it in the style manager) or not installed (but you can install it from your Endnote installer or by downloading the style from Endnote's website).
  • I have EndNote 6 and cant figure out how to download this RIS export style. Any suggestions?

  • From EndNote, select the correct output style for the export. Under the File menu select "Output Styles." From the list of output styles select RefMan (RIS). After exporting from Endnote, use import function under the Zotero "gear" menu and find the RIS file.
