modifying short titles

To specify particular editions of a book I cite, I want to use for my short title Bryce, American Commonwealth (1895) with the title "American Commonwealth" in italics, but not the date "(1895)"
I've tried various combinations of html, but without sucess.
  • I don't believe the short title field takes rich text at all currently (it arguable should, though). This is Chicago style, so you typically would just want
    Author, Short Title
? So modifying the citation style is not an option?
  • OK. It makes a difference which edition I am referring to, so I need to find some way to do that. Thanks
  • If you're citing multiple works with the same author and title, the date should automatically appear, so if you put in a footnote, say, mentioning both editions, I think this should just work.
