Recover files

Hello, I really need help here!

I deleted a sub-collection thinking it would become a collector's item, but I lost the folder completely. I already looked in the trash and the file is not there. I really need to recover the folder and files
  • If you just did this, you should be able to restore a deleted collection from your last automatic backup.

Note that, unless you really went out of your way, the items themselves are likely still in the library root or the trash, but the steps above will explain how to restore collections specifically.

A future version of Zotero will make it possible to restore a deleted collection from the trash.
  • Thank you so much, @dstillermann . I'm already reading how to fix this. I wish it were simpler
  • Could someone tell me if this way I can recover my files? I wish the system was more user-friendly, I'm afraid of losing more files if I make a mistake during this process:

"Open the Advanced pane of the Zotero preferences and make a note of the specified path under Data Directory Location. (By default, this will be “Zotero” within your home folder.) Click “Show Data Directory”, which should reveal your active data directory containing zotero.sqlite and possibly a 'storage' subdirectory. Close Zotero, move one level up in the filesystem (Cmd-up-arrow on macOS, Alt-up-arrow on Windows), and rename the folder to “Zotero-Old”. Next, copy the data directory from your backup to the original location (e.g., “Zotero”).

When you reopen Zotero, you should see your restored Zotero data"
  • No. I linked to the specific section you should follow.
