APA 7 Legal Case - "Omit Author" in text citation

If I want to include a legal case with the name of the case outside the citation, I don't seem to be able to suppress/omit the "author" or case name, i.e.

I want to write about Eldred v. Ashcroft (2003)

But "omit author" doesn't suppress the case name. It keeps it in there.

Am I doing something wrong?
  • You’re not doing anything wrong. The omit author only works with authors, not with titles (which is what the case name is).

I’m not sure if there’s a workaround but I just find it easiest to deal with this at the end when I am finalising the document. It does remove the risk that you break B the link to the document and realise you’ve deleted the case name while editing, and don’t know which case you’re referring to!
  • (We'll have a solution for this in CSL 1.1, I don't think there's a viable workaround before that, no)
  • Thank you. I wondered about that. Appreciate the follow up.
