Include "language" as info in a single citation or bibliography

Hi, I am writing my research using Chicago full note. When I cite sources other than English, I put the original language in the info section for the entry in Zotero. However, when I generate a footnote or bibliography, that language does not appear in my citation. How can I include "language" as something that will show up in my citation or bibliography? Thanks!
  • Hello? Is anyone on this forum?
  • You'd need to modify the style and add <text variable="language"/> where you need it. Very few styles have that included.
  • I'm assuming for Chicago Full Note, there is a correct place for "language" for journal articles and for books. I looked at Zotero Style Editor, and the code is incredibly long and complex. Where would this line go exactly?
  • Sorry, I know nothing about computer programming or writing software. Where would I add this line of code?
  • Chicago only calls for the original language to be described if a title is given in English translation rather than quoted from the original (CMOS18 13.101). It isn’t possible to add this reliably to the Chicago CSL styles, because the language field usually contains unparsed ISO language tags. You would end up with a large number of extra codes that are unsuitable for display in a citation.
  • The CSL ‘medium’ field is usually a good choice to use for this
