Zotero 6: PDFs annotations are only visible within Zotero

I just got the 6.0 upgrade and it looks awesome! The built in PDF reader/editor looks great, even rivaling Okular.

The only issue so far for me is that the annotations made with Zotero's built-in PDF editor are not saved *in the PDF*. I.e, if I open a PDF after annotating it with Zotero (say with Okular), the annotations are not there.

Is there an option to make this annotations be saved within the PDF (as Okular does for example)?
  • Hi,

If you are using the MacOS version:

"Zotero" in file menu ➙ Preferences ➙ "General" tab ➙ "open PDFs using"

Pick system default will open PDF with your system PDF editor just as in Zotero 5.

Or if you edited with Zotero PDF editor:

    "File" ➙ "export PDF ..."

    Hope this helps

    Jake
  • This article explains how Zotero stores annotations (and why) and also how to convert Zotero annotations to (and from) embedded annotations.
  • Thank you both!
