iOS app release

hi everyone,

is there a release date for the iOS app ? if not, does anyone know how can I read and annotate PDFs on my iPad (on an another app), with the annotated PDFs being automatically synced on zotero ? I tried to download the Zotfile add-on for firefox, but I can't since firefox says it's corrupted.

I hope my question's not too much unclear,

thx in advance,

arthur
  • they will never commit to a date publicly, but I too am waiting for this. I have resolved to move to Zotero my ~1200 PDFs and refs, but the iOS app is a vital part of the workflow so I'm stuck waiting...
  • Zotfile is not a Firefox add-on. It is a Zotero add-on. Instead of clicking on the Download link, right-click and "Save Link As". Then, go to Tools in Zotero, click on Add-ons, and drop the download xpi file there.

As Zotero is partly based on Firefox, Zotero add-ons have the same file extension (.xpi), which Firefox interprets as something it should install. Hence, you get the error message.
  • @enozkan Do you mind explaining this process a little further? I am not able to right clink and "save as link" on an iPad.
  • enozkan was describing the Zotero computer program (Mac, Windows, Linux-flavors) not the iPad app.
  • Yeah, I was talking about how to install Zotfile, which is something you add to Zotero on your computer. If you click on the Zotfile download link in Firefox, Firefox will try to install it as a Firefox add-on, which it is not. That's why Firefox claims it is corrupted even when it is not.

If you want to use Zotfile to send PDFs to your tablet, the instructions on Zotfile webpage under "Syncing PDF attachments with your iPad or Android tablet" tells you how. If there is a part of that you do not understand, feel free to ask with that specific question.

But, none of this matters for the Zotero iPad app. The new Zotero iPad app syncs attachment files (like PDFs) itself and makes the Zotfile route obsolete, if you have Zotero syncing of attachments turned on on your computer. (If you don't sync your attachments through Zotero, you can keep using Zotfile to send PDFs to a tablet, and not use the Zotero iPad app for viewing/editing PDFs.)
  • I’ve been using the Zotero iOS beta for almost a year now and can say that it’s as good as it sounds - so much better than zotfile. I am baffled about what is taking so long for them to release it publicly. Most of the app updates I’m getting seem relatively minor … not sure what the holdup is. Just release it!
