Chromebook help

Total Linux novice, believe I faithfully followed the instructions on 'installing on Chromebook' (https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/installing_on_a_chromebook) but am getting the following error:
401 Unauthorized [IP: 185.199.111.133 443]
Reading package lists... Done
E: Failed to fetch https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-deb/releases/download/apt-get/./InRelease 401 Unauthorized [IP: 185.199.111.133 443]
E: The repository 'https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-deb/releases/download/apt-get ./ InRelease' is not signed.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

I also tried downloading and unzipping the 'tar' file available on https://www.zotero.org/download/, but have not been able to run the 'zotero' file in the directory. Tried clicking on that file and got some code appearing, tried pasting it into terminal and had no luck.

I'm willing to follow steps, but I really don't know Linux to be able to try things out for myself. Any advice?
