Problems downloading Zotero in Chrome

Hi,
I'm new to Zotero. Have discovered the problems connecting with Safari on a mac so switched to Chrome. I successfully download. But when I try to open the Zotero App I get this error message.

Zotero database requires Zotero 5.0.97-beta.50+5f61ac23a or later.
Current version: 5.0.96.3
Please upgrade to the latest version from zotero.org.

I check for updates and it says there are no updates.
I've tried deleting the app and all caches and rebooting but the same thing happens each time. Getting desperate now so would be grateful for any advice.

    As it says, you need the beta version of Zotero with your database -- once you've used Zotero with the Beta you cannot switch back to the release version (this isn't always the case, but it is at the moment). You can keep using the beta version of Zotero with the Chrome connector.

    However, do note that you should report Safari Connector bugs here on the forums and we will fix them. You should create separate threads for them (or post on existing threads if you can find an already created one for the Safari Connector bug you're seeing).
