MHRA footnotes not always consistent in MSWord for Mac 365

I have encountered a problem with the MHRA footnotes in MSWord for Mac 365

Insert one footnote citation and the book title is in parenthesis: 'Title of the book'
Another footnote citation the book title will be italicised

Both formats are permitted by MHRA style guide, but it looks odd to have both options in the same footnote section on the same page.

Please could somebody help me standardise the format?

Cheers Colin

  • How are you inserting the footnotes?
  • Hi Damnation.

In MS Word, I normally insert a foonote at the relevant location in the text, I then go to the footnote, then go to the Zotero Add in, and Add/Edit Citation.

Then a window pops up from my local Zotero app. It says something about a classic view. I then press add and the citation appears in the footnote. I watched a Youtube tutorial I seem to be doing it consistently with the video tutorial.

Sometimes the title comes in italicised, sometimes in parenthesis in MHRA.

  • Are you sure those are both entered as book in Zotero? You should always get book titles in italics in mhra
