“Pages” and “Number of pages” are two different fields. “Number of pages” refers to the total number of pages in the whole book. “Pages” refers to the specific page range for a specific article or book chapter. For a Book item, there is no “pages” field because the item is a whole book, not an individual chapter (for a chapter, use the Book Section type).

If you are writing a manuscript and want to refer to a specific page of a book in a citation, you add that page number in your Word document by clicking on the blue bubble for the item in the Add/Edit Citation window in Word and entering the number in the Page field.
