"Quit unexpectedly" and "bad access" message

edited July 16, 2021
I have Zotero (desktop) synced across two computers. I recently had to replace one of these computers and have transferred all my applications and files. But when I try to open Zotero on this new computer, I get a message that Zotero "quit unexpectedly" (I have included the beginning of the very long error report below).

The version on this computer (Mac 11.3.1) is Zotero 5.0.67, which I realize is not the very latest version. Is it worth updating to the newest version? If I replace my current Zotero with this newest version, do I risk losing any data?

  • You need to update to the latest version for Big Sur compatibility, yes. You won't lose data.

You should always be running the latest version, and it's the only version we can support.
