Style request - Taylor & Francis - Council of Science Editors with numeric in text citations

Hello - I am looking for the Taylor & Francis - Council of Science Editors style but with numeric in text citations and not author-date. Can you anyone point me in the direction if this already exists? Or is there an easy way to edit the existing one?

If it doesn't exist I can submit a formal style request!

Thanks!
Emily

We have a whole bunch of T&F styles that are well maintained. https://www.zotero.org/styles?q=taylor

Is the style you want described somewhere and used by a journal? Please share the citation guidelines.
  • Thank you so much for getting back to me. I don't see the exact style when I look though the list of T&E styles.

The style that I am looking for is used by the Journal of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (JAALAS) ISSN 1559-6109.

It follows a modified version of the Council of Science Editors style

It is described on this website under "references": https://www.aalas.org/publications/information-for-authors/cm-and-jaalas/manuscript-preparation

    An example is:
    3. Artwohl JE, Purcell JE, Fortman JD. 2008. The use of cross-foster rederivation to eliminate murine norovirus, Helicobacter spp., and murine hepatitis virus from a mouse colony. J Am Assoc Lab Anim Sci 47:19–24.

I think this matches the "Taylor & Francis - Council of Science Editors" style that is already on Zotero, but should have numeric in text citations instead of (author date).
Not sure if that already exists?

    Thanks again!!
  • I'll have a look at it over the coming days then.
  • Hi,

So, this has nothing to do with T&F, it's only similar to it.

2nd. I made a new style for this, only to find out that we already have such a style on the repository.

  • Thanks again for all your help with this! The instructions to authors say that the journal follows a modified version of the Council of Science Editors, and the "Taylor & Francis - Council of Science Editors" was the closest style on Zotero I could find to the style I was looking for -- I apologize that I gave confusing information!

The style in the repository (linked to above) doesn't match the style described by the journal. For example, the year should come after authors, and there should be only a colon, not a semicolon and colon, after the volume. The styles are similar enough though that I can probably just make adjustments to individual citations.

    I appreciate all your help!
  • I understand.
If we have a style on the repository we want to modify that so ALL users can use such a style and not just one single user.
So, I've replaced the style with the code I had made the other day.
    Test it out:

  • I tested out the new version, and now it seems to be consistent with the journal. Thank you so much!!

The only comment I have, which I am only mentioning bc it might be useful to others using the style in the future, is that there is an added letter after the date in the citations. These letters seem to be added to the date each sequential citation in alphabetical order.

For example, the "a" after 2002 in this citation:

Mutoh T, Nishimura R, Sasaki N. 2002a. Effects of medetomidine-midazolam, midazolambutorphanol, or acepromazine-butorphanol as premedicants for mask induction of anesthesia with sevoflurane in dogs. Am J Vet Res 63:1022–1028. https://doi.org/10.2460/ajvr.2002.63.1022
  • One last note: the references should be ordered alphabetically, not in the order that they appear in the text

    Thanks!
  • "it might be useful to others using the style in the future"

You are still thinking wrong about this. If there is an error, let us know and we fix it. We don't want styles that have errors in them that need manual fixing or something. Especially, since finding such information is hard. (and the title of this thread wouldn't even help you finding it. ;) )

    I fixed those two errors.

  • I have been using the new style that you edited and it has been working well. Thanks again for your help with this!
