RetractionWatch and short DOIs

I recently noticed that some papers I know have been retracted were not getting flagged as such in my library. After some investigation I figured out it's because I set DOI Manager to retrieve short DOIs, and apparently the RetractionWatch integration only works with long DOIs. I've switched back to long for now so I don't miss any retraction notices, but is this something that can be fixed?

    A future version of DOI Manager will store the shortDOI in Extra instead of the DOI field. Note that you shouldn’t cite shortDOIs in papers.
