[style request] Ethnographiques.org

Hi everyone!

It would be great if a new style can be made for the "ethnographiques.org" french and open-free scientific journal (https://www.ethnographiques.org/).

#The link for the recommandations is here : https://www.ethnographiques.org/note-pour-la-redaction-d-articles

# ISSN : 1961-9162

# In-text citations :
(Campbell et Pedersen 2007), (Mares 2001) and (Laugrand, Oosten, Trudel 2006) or with a page indication (Mares 2001 : 150) or with a double citation (Campbell et Pedersen 2007 ; Mares 2001)

#Addendum: There is a little subtility when collective books are french or english with the status of the editor : dir(s). in French or ed(s). in english.

# If needed, there are freely available articles here in the last issue : https://www.ethnographiques.org/2020/numero-40

During some tests, I tried to adapt two existing styles more or less near this one -- Le tapuscrit (https://www.zotero.org/styles/le-tapuscrit-author-date) and the french ISO (https://www.zotero.org/styles/iso690-author-date-fr) -- but without success...

Many thanks! If I can help in a way or another, let me know, I will try my best!
  • Thanks for following the guidelines to request a style to the "T".
I'll be a few weeks till I get to it, but it's logged.
  • And many thanks for the help! If I can help in a way or another (at least for beta-testing?), let me know and I will try my best!
  • Hi damnation,

I made some tests this week-end but I am a bit late to do a report. Sorry!

I noticed a missing comma and a space before the page numbers for the articles (in the Hisakata reference for example after 26 (14), it's missing).

There is also a little error with the brackets around the journal issue and the volume number because a lot of french journals don't have a volume organisation. If there is no volume, the issue number is without brackets but when there is a volume number, it's within brackets.

And there are other subtleties because of the French but I don't know if it's possible to integrate them :
    # when inverted commas are used in an article or chapter title, they are transformed into English inverted -- “” -- commas (not french ones like that «») ;
    # for the direction of French books, is it possible to indicate "dir." for one person and "dirs." for several? and when it is an English book, the usual ed./eds. Perhaps on the condition that the language of the reference is properly indicated?

But, already, thank you very much for the work done! It will help many people.
  • 1. issues with volume/page comma missing: fixed
    2. no brackets for issue when no volume: built into the style (can you please test)
    3. Quotation marks: not sure this is possible
    4. We can't differentiate between the language of an item, so no. Not possible.

I'd appreciate if you can test this while the PR is still open, so it doesn't duplicate work.

  • Alright, many thanks! I will make tests now and I will tell you soon. :-)
  • Alright... The results of my last tests. For the previous issues, it is solved (and I find a way for the quotation marks).

    And the final subtleties :
    # For a chapter, the "in" following the title can be in italic.
    # when a work is included in a collection or has been republished, some elements are missing according to this format:
LASTNAME Firstname, DATE. « Title », in NAME2 Author2 et NAME3 Last3 (eds.), Title of the book in italic. City, Editor (Name of the collection number in the collection, X ed.), p. X-YZ.

Here a real example from thee recommandations's page : HAMAYON Roberte, 2002. « Shamanism : symbolic system, human capability and Western ideology », in FRANCFORT Henri-Paul et HAMAYON Roberte (eds.), The Concept of Shamanism : Uses and Abuses. Budapest, Akadémiai Kiadó (Bibliotheca Shamanistica X), p. 1-27.

Some precisions: the name of the series is not preceded by "coll." and there is no comma to separate it from the number of the book within the series. There is a comma to separate with the indication of the possible reprint.

After that, I think that the vast majority of cases will be well handled by the style!
