Trouble with weird DOI

Zotero has trouble finding the publication with the following DOI:
https://doi.org/10.1002/(SICI)1096-9861(20000131)417:1<88::AID-CNE7>3.0.CO;2-U

I get the following error message:
Zotero could not find a record for the specified identifier. Please verify the identifier and try again.

I just entered the data manually, but I want to report this anyway in case this kind of DOI is common. It's the first one I've seen with this problem tho.

    That DOI resolves fine (it’s not weird other than being annoying long—Wiley used to use This style a lot), so the issue you saw is likely just the CrossRef service that Zotero uses for DOI lookup being temporarily down. It’s been having issues lately.
  • Seems like it's just a case of metadata not being registered for this DOI? I'm not clear on the specifics of how that can happen (other than for brand new DOIs), but other DOIs are resolving fine.
  • Ah, sorry, missed this — I guess it is an API issue: https://twitter.com/adam42smith/status/1387073143223771137
  • I haven't checked, but these very old "SICI" DOIs also have all sorts of issues -- I think we handle them correctly, but they're generally a mess (and very rare, thankfully)
