Save to Zotero ext in Chrome not saving reference to Zotero Web library

In 2018 I created a Zotero account - when I sign into Zotero I can see the previously saved references in my Web Library. I just reinstalled the latest Zotero extension for Chrome so that I could resume using Zotero. The extension allows me to save a reference to my online library, but when I view the Web Library any newly saved references do not appear and I don't know where they're being stored. Any help in resolving the mystery would be appreciated.

    The Zotero Connector saves to the Zotero app when available. The app then syncs with your online library.

    You generally want to be working with the app when possible, not the website.
