How to define et al
Dear, Zotero Community,
Greetings
I need to know how I can limit the number of authors, for instance I need to put ten authors in a manuscript on bibliographic list and the rest should be et al. This is for the journal "Endocrine Connections". It does not mention a particular style name. Please tell me a solution and show the steps simply. Thanks

From the journal site -
In the reference list
List references in the order they are cited in the text.
Reference in the following format:
1. Inkster S, Yue W & Brodie A. Human testicular aromatase: immunocytochemical and biochemical studies. Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism 1995 80 1941–1947.
2. Matthews CH, Borgato S, Beck-Peccoz P, Adams M, Tone Y, Gambino G, Casagrande S, Tedeschini G, Benedetti A & Chatterjee VK. Primary amenorrhea and infertility due to a mutation in the β-subunit of follicle-stimulating hormone. Nature Genetics 5 83–86.
3. Royer P. Hormonal regulation of calcium metabolism: biology and pathology. In Pediatric Endocrinology, edn 2, ch. 6, pp 477–543. Eds J-C Job & M Pierson. New York: John Wiley & Sons, 1981.
List a maximum of ten authors. Where there are more than ten authors, list the first ten and then use et al.
Please also provide the EXACT two examples that are given in this guide in this thread here. https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/blob/master/REQUESTING.md#requesting-csl-styles
Then we can make a custom style for the journal.
I found that Zotero already has a CSL style "European Journal of Endocrinology" that matches with the one requested for "Endocrine Connections". The only difference in the one requested for currently is the number of authors - List a maximum of ten authors. Where there are more than ten authors, list the first ten and then use et al.
In the existing style in Zotero (European Journal of Endocrinology), all the authors are being listed instead of 10 and then et al. So a dependent style can be created with a restriction on the number of authors to 10 followed by et al.

There was a few other smaller things different, too.

Should i search by Endocrine Connections or it is part of European journal of endocrinology?
Or is there some other way for it.....please tell in simple steps.
Applied it to my word article. It works. However there are a few issues which need sorting out.
As an example, this is what i got for a citation after applying the link given above:
Chen N, Zhou M, Dong X, Qu J, Gong F, Han Y, Qiu Y, Wang J, Liu Y, … Zhang L. Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 99 cases of 2019 novel coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan, China: a descriptive study. The Lancet 2020 395 507–513. (https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(20)30211-7)
However, this is what is needed for a correct citation style for "Endocrine Connections":
Chen N, Zhou M, Dong X, Qu J, Gong F, Han Y, Qiu Y, Wang J, Liu Y & Wei Y et al. Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 99 cases of 2019 novel coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan, China: a descriptive study. The Lancet 2020 395 507–513. (doi:10.1016/S0140-6736(20)30211-7)
This is the original full list of authors in the citation:
Chen N, Zhou M, Dong X, Qu J, Gong F, Han Y, Qiu Y, Wang J, Liu Y, Wei Y, Xia J, Yu T, Zhang X, & Zhang L. Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 99 cases of 2019 novel coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan, China: a descriptive study. The Lancet 2020 395 507–513. (doi:10.1016/S0140-6736(20)30211-7)
Kindly help. May need some modification in the code to get desired result.
Thanks.
However one issue persists whenever the authors are more than 10, as below:
Chen N, Zhou M, Dong X, Qu J, Gong F, Han Y, Qiu Y, Wang J, Liu Y, Wei Y, et al. Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 99 cases of 2019 novel coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan, China: a descriptive study. The Lancet 2020 395 507–513. (https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(20)30211-7)
The above citation has been formatted after using the above link - "https://www.zotero.org/styles?q=id:endocrine-connections"
Instead of "Liu Y & Wei et al." - CORRECT (et al is in non-italicised font)
It is coming as "Liu Y, Wei Y, et al." - ERROR (plus the et al is coming italicised)
Maybe the last mile slight code change may solve it. Thanks for your time and effort.
You can see that EC use et al. in italics here: https://ec.bioscientifica.com/view/journals/ec/9/10/EC-20-0342.xml
The style correctly produces the output as seen in the paper:
8 Accadia T, Acernese F, Alshourbagy M, Amico P, Antonucci F, Aoudia S, Arnaud N, Arnault C, Arun KG, P Astone, et al. Virgo: a laser interferometer to detect gravitational waves. Journal of Instrumentation 2012 7 P03012. (https://doi.org/10.1088/1748-0221/7/03/P03012)
Arun KG, P Astone, et al. (is what is above)
vs
Arun KG & P Astone et al. (is what EC wants)
I am sharing a sample full text article from the journal in case "Endocrine Connections" which shows the citations which have more than 10 authors as "Arun KG & P Astone et al." Please see reference number 29 and 33 in the article link given below:
https://ec.bioscientifica.com/view/journals/ec/9/10/EC-20-0342.xml
I am pointing to two things....whenever we have more than 10 authors then et al has to be used in a format as below:
1. ......Arun KG & P Astone et al
2. There is a "&" between the last 2 authors before et al and no comma.
Meanwhile I have done the references of my article manually.
Hope to find a simpler way through Zotero for the same. And thank you for your time and responses in trying to find a solution. I really appreciate it.

I think the zotero style should work for EC.
Thanks.
