Zotero OCR

Hello,

I can't download Linux, Mac see https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract/wiki as it is no longer available for MAC.

Can you tell me how I do ?

Best regards,
  • Hello thanks, but I really need help as I don't understand how it works and I don't understand the guidelines on Zotero. Do you know if there is a video explaining and showing ?
  • @ayabejermi Do you have a Mac or are you on Linux?
  • I have a Mac, I download Macports High Sierra version but I coud'nt find the tesseract version as it is a prerequisite before doing the parameters of the plugin Zotero OCR.
  • I don't get how to put the path to my OCR engine. When I dowload Macports I could'nt fin the way the get into it.
  • Do you know if it works on any language ?
  • It works in all languages supported by tesseract see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesseract_(software)#Features

There's not video, no. I'm not clear from your description where you've run into problems. Are you unsure how to use Macports, or have you installed tesseract using Macports and can't find it? Generally, the more details you can provide when asking questions, the more likely someone will be able to help you.
If you find writing in English difficult, feel free to continue in your preferred language, though we'll likely continue replying in English
  • Zotero OCR requires you to manually enter the path to the tesseract executable. Searching for the executable with Finder on Mac will not show it unless you have set Finder to display hidden files and folders such as /usr
Here is a guide to displaying hidden files
    https://www.ionos.com/digitalguide/server/configuration/showing-hidden-files-on-a-mac/

When I used Homebrew (an alternative to Macports) to install tesseract on my Mac it put a link (Alias) to the executable in /usr/local/bin/
Poppler install also put a link to pdftoppm in /usr/local/bin
If I right-click on the tesseract Alias, the context menu includes "Show Original"
Just entering the path to the Alias in Zotero OCR parameters should work
    /usr/local/bin/tesseract
    /usr/local/bin/pdftoppm

Be patient if you are trying to OCR a large document.
    Hope this helps.
  • For large files you might want to uncheck "save output as note" in Zotero OCR preferences, otherwise it will freeze syncing of your Zotero database with zotero.org.
