Can not install the plug in to Word.

Hi all, I am trying to install the plug in. I have tried to reinstall three times. Despite Word being closed I keep getting an error message that I need to close Word. I have tried to re-install Zotero twice; I have checked through the developer and trust centre at Word as well as that Zotero integration is enabled - nothign helps and I still get the same error message. Can you think of something else to try. I have in mind to re-install Office? thank you very much, Oren

Have you tried restarting your computer and trying to reinstall the plugin? What operating system? Reinstalling Office certainly won't help.

Thank you, yes, I should have said. I have restarted the computer and no help. Windows 10 it is.

The plugin install should still happen even if you have Word open (or Zotero thinks it does), so the message you see shouldn't cause the problem. See https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#zotero_toolbar_doesn_t_appear and https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting#zotero_tab_does_not_appear_in_the_word_ribbon

Yes I know. I have re-installed it many times when working with students (am an AT trainer) but I never encounter this error message before. The very error message is strange. Why do you think that re-installing Office would not work? Could it not be some corrupted blocking file in Word that causes this error message to appear?

The other thing that may happen is that, because the student downloaded Office 365 through the institution (all students have a free copy), the institution blocked new add-ins from coming in....

hi thank you for that. Have not got the message because it was on my student's computer. But it said that ' Zotero add in could not be installed, please make sure that Microsoft Word is closed and try again'. Word was shut and we even restarted the computer.

Can you provide a Report ID for this happening?

But if the plugin can't be installed manually due to system restrictions, you should still be able to use the manual installation instructions.
