Chicago style, shortened bibliographic info is not working

As I'm using Zotero in Chicago style on Google Docs, the shortened bibliographic info only comes automatically the second time I use the source, but if I use it a third time the whole bibliographic info comes.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Could someone possibly assist me?

  • What exactly do you mean by the “full bibliographic information”? What is shown the third time?
  • It looks like:

    1. Judith Butler, The Force of Nonviolence (New York: Verso Books, 2020).
    2. Butler.
    3. Judith Butler, The Force of Nonviolence (New York: Verso Books, 2020).

It is also a problem that the shortened information just says Butler, because I'm using several sources of the same author.
  • Which Chicago style exactly are you using?

Using just the author's last name is Chicago's version of "ibid" in the 17th edition. If you cite anything else in footnote 2 and then insert footnote 3, you'd get a shortened version of the note.

For the original problem: Does this happen consistently with any item or just with that particular one? Does it persist if you click the "Refresh" button? How about if you switch to a different style and back? Is automatically update citations checked in the Document Preferences?
