Style request: British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology

edited July 1, 2019
Hi,

the Britisch Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (BJCP) wants me to put the references in AMA style WITH in-text citations as numbers in square brackets (as I understand, as a dependent style):
It is not in the zotero style repository yet. Can anybody help me with this. Thanks a lot!

    References

References should be cited using the AMA (American Medical Association) style.

All references should be numbered consecutively in order of appearance and should be as complete as possible. In-text citations should be numbers in square brackets e.g. [1], [2], etc. Journal titles are abbreviated; abbreviations may be found in the following: MEDLINE , Index Medicus , or CalTech Library

Submissions are not required to reflect the precise reference formatting of the journal (use of italics, bold etc.); however, it is important that all key elements of each reference are included. Please see below for examples of reference content requirements.

For more information, please see the AMA Reference Style Guide.

  • Still looking for help! Just updated the request following your request instructions ;) Thanks you!
  • Perfect, thanks!
  • Any update related to this style? I need that too. Thanks, Giorgia
  • HI there, thanks for your reply. The style is not the same that the journal is requesting, in-text citations should be numbers in square brackets e.g. [1], [2], etc; is there any way of changing that? Thanks for your time and help.G
  • The journal publishes with numbers in superscript and says to use AMA style (which uses superscript numbers) otherwise. Any reason to believe they'd actually object to this in practice?
  • This is an extract from the following article (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5809349/) published on BJCP (the PDF format)

To address this knowledge gap, the European
    Medicines Agency’s Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment
Committee (PRAC) adopted in 2016 a strategy [3] aiming to
assess whether pharmacovigilance activities achieve their
intended objectives and to identify areas where performance
    could be enhanced [4].

And this is from the guidelines in the journal

...It is a bit confusing, agree with you. Is there any way to change the style adding the square brackets?
  • But if you look at the current issue, they're using superscript:
    https://bpspubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/bcp.14334
    https://bpspubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/bcp.14333 (both open access)

It's certainly possible to change, but it's a hassle to maintain different versions of AMA, and I'm wondering if, given the journal's actual practice, that's necessary.
  • Well, this is actually very interesting and thanks for pointing that out. I will ask clarification to the journal since they are requesting a style that does not correspond to what you just shared. Thank you so much for that!
  • If they tell you to use square brackets, we can do that pretty quickly, just let us know.
  • I just emailed the editorial office. As soon as I get a reply I will post it here, it could be useful for other people too. Thanks for your help. G

  • Do you think it is something doable? Thanks for your help, G
  • Update style is now available and will auto-update in your Zotero. You may have to switch to a different style and back in a given document for changes to take effect.
  • thank you so much! G
