Upgrade Storage
Creating an account wouldn't have any effect on your local data.
If you already had an account that you had previously synced with and then tried to set up your local Zotero to sync with a different account, Zotero would've asked for confirmation to delete your old local data so it could sync with the new account. If you agreed to that, it would do what it said it was going to do. In that case data from the previous account would still exist in the online library of that account, though it may not be up to date if you hadn't been syncing, and you would want to restore from a backup of your Zotero data directory.
