Sync stopping due to large Notes or Large Word Document attachments

Hello, I just realized that my Zotero database does not seem to have been syncing to the Cloud because it is getting jammed up with unacceptably long notes or large Word files. I never noticed the red exclamation but now that I'm clicking on it, it seems to go through one note or document after another that it wants me to shorten.

1. With the thousands of notes I have in my database, is there anyway to get a list of these offending notes/files? As I click through the little exclamation mark, I have no idea how long I will have to sit there cleaning up these files -- hours? days?

2. Is there a way to know in advance how large or how many words a note is allowed to have before it runs the risk of corrupting the sync? Why does the note allow me to save itself, if it isn't going to be acceptable later? One offending note took 52 word document pages; and one word document was 129 pages albeit in very large font, so only about 5000 words.

3. If I PDF a word document will it be more acceptable? After all some articles can run a hundred pages.

Thank you
  • Where are these notes from? A note almost never goes above the limit unless you've dragged images into them, which isn't supported and won't sync. If you've done that, you can search for <img. in the Zotero search bar in Everything mode to find the offending notes and remove them. A future version of Zotero will likely support embedded images, but they've never been supported.

I'm not sure why you're mentioning Word files. Zotero notes don't have anything to do with Word, and there wouldn't be any problem syncing a Word document attached to an item as an attachment unless it was bigger than 4 GB, which would be absurdly large for a Word document.
Why does the note allow me to save itself, if it isn't going to be acceptable later?
There's no separate saving step for notes — whatever you enter is saved automatically, and Zotero wouldn't just throw out data you enter. Syncing is optional, and by necessity it has some length limits that don't need to exist locally, but they're very unlikely to be relevant in standard usage.
    3. If I PDF a word document will it be more acceptable? After all some articles can run a hundred pages.
I don't really understand what you're saying here. You can attach any files up to 4 GB, but what do Word documents have to do with "articles"?
