Parentheses in Parentheses

edited September 7, 2020
Hi!

In my texts, I sometimes encounter the following situation in a footnote:

(Leakey Richard E. F.: Evidence for an Advanced Plio-Pleistocene Hominid from East Rudolf, Kenya, in: Nature, 242 [1973], S. 447–450).

Without the ( and ) as prefix and suffix, it reads

Leakey Richard E. F.: Evidence for an Advanced Plio-Pleistocene Hominid from East Rudolf, Kenya, in: Nature, 242 (1973), S. 447–450.

So Zotero somehow understands that the (1973) should be changed to [1973].
My first question is: How does it do this? Where is this step defined?

My second question is:
Zotero doesn't do this automatically when the round parentheses are in the title.
For instance: (Raymond Smullyan: Satan, Cantor und die Unendlichkeit und 200 weitere verblüffende Tüfteleien (engl. 1992). Basel 1993)
Can I program it to change it to [engl. 1992]? If yes, how?

Similarly for the (Hg.) (which is the german term for editor)

In:
(Sybille Krämer: Der Bote als Topos oder: Übertragung als eine medientheoretische Grundkonstellation, in: Till A. Heilmann, Anne von der Heiden, Anna Tuschling (Hg.): medias in res. Medienkulturwissenschaftliche Positionen. Bielefeld 2011 [MedienAnalysen 6], S. 53–67, hier S. 53).
Zotero changes (MedienAnalysen 6) to [MedienAnalysen 6], but not the (Hg.) to [Hg.].

Many thanks for your help!
