Word (2013; Win 10 all updated) continues crashing on Zotero updates to file

Report ID: 522370705

Zotero's trouble updating the file crashed all Word documents open, not only the one in which I try to insert new references.

I have Track Changes off.

Can you describe in detail what you did and what happened? Is this a recurring problem?
  • I just upgraded to Office 2019, and so far no conflicts or Word crashes.
I'm running Win 10 Pro, all updates, and Z 5.0.88.

    Questions, if you don't mind:

Do you know if you have to set "Accept changes and stop tracking" every time you re-open the doc (that you are using with Z), i.e., not just set it once. Seems like it needs to be reset every time I go back to re-edit after reload.

Does Word in Office 2019 seem to be most stable for Z users?

I noticed some of the earlier conflicts (crashing Word 2013) happening when I first inserted a normal Word endnote, wrote some text, then added Chicago author/date references inside the endnote. Is there a fields issue with inserting a ref. from Z inside an endnote?

    Thanks.

This isn't a general issue, or something that would be caused by Zotero, so you should look for general Word/Microsoft help regarding this. Generally track changes should not be enabled when opening a document which had it disabled before saving.

We generally don't really have any Zotero-related stability issues, except for occasional updates to Word causing problems. We recently reintroduced a feature: being able to undo Zotero citations in a single Undo Action, back into the plugin. We originally introduced it a few years ago, but disabled it due to concerns of it making Word crash. Originally removing the feature didn't stop the reports for Word crashing to disappear from Zotero users, which is why we decided to try to reintroduce it, and we have seen a couple of crashing reports since, but we want to get a better idea on what's the source of those before we get rid of the feature again.

    There isn't.
  • Many thanks!
