Storage questions

I have several Group Libraries, which I no longer use, taking lots of storage. What do you recommend I do to free up some space?

There doesn't seem to be a way to turn off file syncing (or purging) Group Libraries, right?

I think my only option is to move all those files to My Library and then turn off File Syncing. Do you agree?

  • For one, you can delete (as an owner) or leave (as a member) group libraries you don't need.

As an owner, you can also turn of group storage under library settings for the group. Click on "Manage Library" under the group in question here: https://www.zotero.org/groups.

(btw. @dstillman -- I find it quite confusing that the same link is "Manage Library" on https://www.zotero.org/groups but "Library Settings" on https://www.zotero.org/groups/[groupID]/settings/library -- any reason for the different terminology?)
  • I am the owner of all of them, and I do want to keep the files (not necessarily in My Library)

I was hoping I could leave them in the Group Library, but not have them sync (to save storage?) It seems to that me though that if I turn off the group storage (as you suggested), it will delete the files. Is that correct?

No, you can't do that. Groups are fundamentally about sharing, so deleting files online only isn't something that's supported.

Yes. When you turn file editing for a group, it will prompt you to delete attachment items, and then do so for you, and those deletions will sync.

    Yes, I agree.
  • Silly, because i've accidentally created these groups and no one is apart of them and there are no documents saved in them... yet i can't delete them!
  • @qwerty20180: You're misunderstanding what this thread is about. As adamsmith says above, you can always delete a group you own or leave a group you're a member of via the website.
  • Yup, I realized I misread this. My apologies, everyone.
