Ignore Articles (a, the, etc) when sorting materials

Is this a thing or are there plans to implement something like this? Or am I better off renaming everything with an article at the beginning like Title, The?
  • Definitely don't rename.

Do you mean sorting in the Zotero window or sorting in a bibliography?
  • I bet AlinaWithAFace means in the Zotero window. There's no way to ignore leading articles in titles, so every item with a title starting with "A" or "An" sorts together, and everything starting with "The" sorts together. It would be great if there was a way to handle this so that items could be sorted on the next word.

  • I'd also love to have the feature that @wdenton is describing!
  • Definitely need at least an option in sort to ignore leading articles or not. Default should be to ignore leading articles.
I know this is a computer sorting thing, but library catalogs manage this (they use a special field in their MARC records to define the number of leading characters to ignore and each record is done manually, so you could add an entry next to each title for such a number to be ignored.
But easiest for English is just to ignore “a, an, the” and that would fix 90% of it.
