Inserting citations in Google Docs

I'm unable to insert any citations into footnotes in Google Docs. None of the troubleshooting answers address this. Any advice on what to do next? I've closed and reopened both Zotero and Google Docs multiple times.

    Can you be more specific about what you mean by "unable to insert any citations into footnotes"? Do you get a citation dialog and then an Error? No citation dialog at all? Did you try this in a new document? What citation style are you using?

    Zotero opens, but does not give me a citation dialog, it goes straight to an Error message. This is a copied document from Word. I'm using the American Journal of Archaeology citation style. Thank you.

    By copied document do you mean you used the transfer document procedure, or just copied the contents of the doc file into google docs? The latter is not recommended and will certainly cause issues with Google Docs integration. Could you submit a Report ID from Zotero?
