Éds. in french

Hi, I'm using the APA 7th edition style, in french. For some references, I have several editors to a book. In the reference list, it should be (Éds.), but at the moment it shows (Éd.). When I switch to english, the plural is included (Eds.), so I think it just need a little fix in the french language. Could you look into it? Thanks.
  • I've submitted a fix, but will let @bwiernik and @adamsmith sign it off. Bwiernik is our APA boss.
  • No, this in on purpose. My understanding is that French acronyms do not typically use an s for plural. That's what the consensus of the (native French speakers) who translated the terms for CSL was and it's also reflected e.g. here:
    https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/éd.#French
(I understand this is not a firm rule -- I've also seen eds. and dirs. in French)
  • The Provost guide French style does use "éds" (no period): https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/blob/master/apa-fr-provost.csl

Candian Psychology/Psychologie canadienne (APA's only French-language journal) uses "éds." (with a period): https://doi.org/10.1037/cap0000187

I did a brief Google Scholar search and "éds" and "éds." both seem fairly common in French-language psychology journals, including both Canadian and French journals. I couldn't find a case where "éd." was used with a multi-editor list (but that is difficult to search for because "éd." is used for both editor and edition).

Based on all that, I think it would probably be good to change to "éds." (with period) for plural editor (and editortranslator) in APA styles.
  • Thank you all for your responses. Provost et al. (2016) is indeed my reference guide. French acronyms usually don't take the plural, but Éds is a commun exception. It would be all right without the dot (Éds) also. Thanks again.
  • Note that we have Provost APA already available:

Yes, I agree -- let's keep the period for regular APA but add the s.
  • Okay, this is updated in the various APA styles now.
