Zotero Connector Safari 13 Beta Failure

The Zotero Connector Beta for Safari 10 has recently started failing. It used to work, but lately (perhaps since a Zotero update, IDK) when Safari starts, the icon appears, disappears, reappears again, then disappears and stays gone. I've tried disabling all other extensions, but it doesn't help. I can't get debug information because the extension crashes too quickly.

    We're looking for a fix. In the meantime restarting your Mac and/or reinstalling the Zotero Beta might alleviate the problem.

    i've had safari crash on me a few times recently. this began, i believe, with the last update of safari (to 13.0.5; os 10.14.6). since then, i begain looking at activity monitor and log files. i got the impression connector was leaking memory. at one point usage was as high as 5.7+ GB. i updated to the latest version of zotero+connector (5.0.85-beta.1+78b5dbaca). as per guidance, i did a reboot to address initialization issues. this did not resolve the matter. only later did i test the functionality of the connector button itself, which seemed not to work (and is what got me to this discussion thread). in the event that it may be of some use, below are a few of the console messages i found.
