Error when trying to add a citation in Google Docs

I keep getting this dialog box error:

Zotero
Zotero experienced an error updating your document.
Would you like to view troubleshooting instructions?

I'm on a Mac in Chrome.

Can you provide a Report ID from both Zotero and the Zotero Connector?
  • Sure, here you go. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Report ID: 651225380

When I am in Google docs, I select the Zotero icon to try and add a citation, but it does not work.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Start Zotero.
    2. Click on “Zotero icon” or "Zotero > Add/Edit citation" in menu bar.
    3. Error dialog box appears.

Zotero displays the error message "Zotero experienced an error updating your document. Would you like to view troubleshooting instructions?" in the dialog box.
  • Could you produce a Report ID from the Zotero Connector? Also did you try simply restarting the browser and Zotero?

    Yes, here you go:

    Report ID: 1595689356

Actually, I discovered that the document that I was trying to cite in had the extension ".DOCX". This was causing the error because Zotero citations work in a regular Google doc. I copied the content to a Google doc and tah-dah! I also did restart the browser and Zotero.

I plan on downloading the Google doc, formatting it, making final edits, and saving it as a MS Word doc eventually. Thanks for getting back to me!
