How to update citation numbers when moving sentences within Word doc?

I am editing my manuscript and noticed that when I move sentences with citations, the citation doesn't update (even after refreshing). For example, I move a sentence with citation 10-11 to follow a sentence with citations 22-23. It should shift all citations to maintain correct order, but that doesn't happen. Cannot find any help in the FAQs.

Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Click the Refresh button in the Zotero Word add-on.

Does switching to a different citation style and back work? If it doesn't, something more fundamental is wrong.

I am having this same problem. After editing my document, the numbers are completely out of order. I've hit Refresh repeatedly and even switched citation styles and back again, and nothing changed. Any suggestions?

Sorry to revive an really old thread but I'm having a similar problem. It's also mentioned at https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/78295/zotero-does-not-update-past-sources-numbering-with-new-citation .

In my case, I'm testing a numeric style file I wrote myself and the citation numbers don't update when pressing the "refresh" button. Switching to a different style (Nature, IEEE, Vancouver...) and back works fine. I'm just wondering why this happens and how I can solve it... I carefully compared my CSL code to the built-in ones (Nature, IEEE, Vancouver...) and I can't figure out what's wrong. Thanks!

Switch to APA and then back to your numeric style.
