Word keeps crashing when trying to save

Adding and editing citations works fine, but if I try to save the document after adding or editing a citation, Word crashes. This just started happening today. So far it only seems to be true for a particular document, but the problem persisted even after I unlinked all citations, converting the document to plain text, and then tried to add a citation. Copying and pasting the plain text into a new document also didn't help. Has anyone been ever able to solve this issue?
  • What Word version?

By "crashing", do you mean that Word is closing or freezing? If the former, are you getting an error message of any sort?
  • The cursor turns into the spinny wheel for a second or two, and then the document closes without saving changes. No error message.
  • Is this Word for Mac? Have you tried running through the debugging broken documents instructions?
  • @adomasven thanks for the tip about the debugging instructions. I think that using the Track Changes feature in Word was causing the citations to get corrupted. No easy way around it, since this document gets passed around for peer editing.

My solution was to unlink all citations and copy the plain text into a new document to solve the corruption issue. I keep all my linked citations in a separate document to generate the bibliography. Hope this helps someone else.
  • i have the problem too. the word is for windows 10 . can you help me?
