ctrl key does not show an item's collections

When I find an item through search I want to see in what collections it belongs. I read that pressing the ctrl key should do it. I must be having some kind of interference for that (I'm on FF3 and Ubuntu Hardy, gnome). Is there any other way to see the collections associated with an item?

Also, while I'm at it, is there any way to search for collection titles (I'm starting to have quite a few...)?

    On Linux, I believe the key is alt (meta).

    No joy with any shift keys. I must have it redefined somewhere. I use google desktop, which uses double ctrl. I will do some hunting, but it would be nice to have that function on menu. (I do get the right click menus.)
