Inconsistent formatting of first names

Hi,

I have a bibliography with a mix of patents, documents, and journal articles. I'd like to list it in the IEEE format in a Word document. However, the formatting of the author names seems inconsistent. Patents read "Smith, John". Documents read "Smith, J.". Journal articles read "J. Smith".

How should I proceed to get all of them displayed as "J. Smith"?

    Check how they're input in Zotero. The IEEE style is set up to display all authors as "J. Smith" and the formatting is independent of item type. The most likely scenario would be if you had authors in single field mode as "Smith, John"

    I guess there was a discrepancy in my inputs because I imported some automatically and entered others manually.
