After recent Zotero update to 5.0.69 Identifier not working

When I try to use the identifier tool (the wand) to add new articles to my folder I receive the follower error.

Lookup Failed:
Zotero could not find a record for the specified identifier. Please verify the identifier and try again.

Worked completely fine the day before the update.

Appreciate your help.
  • Can you 1) provide an identifier that's failing and 2) provide a Debug ID for a lookup that fails?
  • I will be more than happy to if you can tell me how to find both of those things.
  • Oh so the identifier is 10.1128/JVI.03184-15 it also did not work when I tried putting in the PMID: 26912616
  • I provided a link to Debug ID instructions.

  • sorry I just copied everything I thought was relevant.

Right, so all of your network connections in Zotero are failing. You should see an error icon in the Zotero toolbar at startup with the message "Functionality that depends on an internet connection may not work." and a link to Connection Error. See the suggestions on that page.

This wouldn't be related to the update.
  • Ok, I guess just coincidence
  • I do see the error icon and I clicked and I am trying to understand how to reset the proxy settings...
  • So I'm following the instructions I am now at the config editor and have no clue what to do.
  • The page links to the relevant Mozilla instructions, but that's for advanced configurations, and you shouldn't need to change this. If it's not working by default, there's a problem with your system proxy settings.
  • I am on a macbook pro running macOSmojave version 10.14.5 and I use safari as my web browser
  • so I've opened my system proxies that only one that is selected is SOCKS proxy. I see it says to disable the system proxies? Am I supposed to unselected SOCKS proxy or should I leave this alone and try to get IT department invovled?
  • I'm sorry for the poor grammar working on a grant proposal and just realized Zotero isn't working for me, so I'm still trying to work on three things at once.
  • You certainly shouldn't have a SOCKS proxy enabled if you're not trying to use a proxy. That's not something that would change on its own, though, and Zotero behavior here hasn't changed, so something would've had to have happened that caused that setting to change. We obviously can't tell you what the correct value would be for your network setup. It's possible you do need to use a proxy, your secure requests are being intercepted/monitored by your institution, and you're getting an SSL Certificate Error in Zotero, but usually that results in a different error. As the page says, this could also be caused by security software trying to monitor your connection.
  • Ok I appreciate your help getting to the bottom of the problem, sounds like I need to contact IT and have them come fix whatever proxy setting is not correct. Thank you.
