Zotero Word Plug-In does not recognize citations and cannot generate bibliography

Hi,

I am having some trouble with Zotero lately.

Even though I have been inserting citations with "Add Citations" via the Zotero Word Plug-in, Zotero does not recognize the already inserted citations. (it cannot refresh citations or add a bibliography).

I always receive the same error message "You must insert a citation before performing this operation."

I have tried over and over, with different citations in my existing document and unrelated new word documents, and I always have the same problem.

My computer is running on macOS Mojave.

Please help!

    Which file format are you saving the file as (i.e. which extension does it have). This most commonly happens when people save Word files as .odt

    it's .docx

    So just to recap, you can reproduce with exactly these steps?:
    1. You open a new document
    2. You insert a citation using the Zotero Word add-on
    a) i.e. you first pick a citaiton style
    b) you then pick a citation
    3. The citation appears
    4. You then click on "Insert Bibliography" and get the above error

    Yes correct.

    Earlier I never had problems with this, but now it won't work anymore.

    What exact Word version? Can you provide a Report ID?

    It shouldn't be necessary, but have you tried reinstalling the Word plugin from the Cite pane of the Zotero preferences?
