I have 4 citation numbers missing from my dissertation - it could be that I deleted some paras and the citation got taken out. The problem is Zotero is not self-adjusting the numbering of citations thereafter. I tried to insert new citations to "make up" for the missing numbers - but Zotero kept pushing the numbers forward, and still creating a gap in the numbering sequence.

I went to the "document preferences" and have checked marked "automatically update citations" and hit "Refresh". I am using Windows 10, MS Word, and the latest version of Zotero.

What else can I do to get Zotero to adjust the numbering of citations?
