I cannot make reference with Zotero or anything with macOS Mojave

Report ID: 1654239172

Since I updated my mac with macOS Mojave, I have not been able to make reference in my Word-fields with Zotero. When I tried, I got this message:
1) Open System Preferences
2) Click on “Security & Privacy”
3) Select the “Privacy” tab
4) Find and select “Automation” on the left
5) Check the checkbox for “Microsoft Word” under “Terminal”
6) Restart Word

However, when I tried to do step 5), I did not find any checkbox for Microsoft Word nor terminal

Could somebody help me?
  • I have the exact same issue as will14m.

    The exact issue is:
    1. Computer updated to Mojave
    2. Opened Word and Zotero.
    3. When inserting a citation, or refreshing, I get the message as listed above by will14m.
    4. When going to the 'Automation' tab in System Preferences, the box is blank. So, I can't check any checkbox, let alone check Microsoft Word under Terminal.

I need to finish my dissertation this week, and could really use any help!
  • Close Word and Zotero. Open the Terminal, type (or paste) tccutil reset AppleEvents and hit enter. Reopen Zotero and Word and see if it works
  • I did not work to me. I I type "tccutil reset AppleEvents" nothing rear happens. When I type first "tccutil" a then "reset AppleEvents" the answer is "reset: can't initialize terminal type AppleEvents (error -1)
    Terminal type?"
  • @will14m: You want to be very careful not to type anything into Terminal other than the exact command we provide — it's OK in this case, but by trying something else you ended up running a totally unrelated command.

What exactly happens after you type "tccutil reset AppleEvents" and press Return?
  • The terminal trick didn't work for me :(
  • When I do that appears "MacBook-Pro-de-...:~ ....$" that is all
  • And after that, when you restart Zotero and Word, you get the same message?
  • yes, the problem still remains
  • Is this your personal machine? What is the exact version of MacOS Mojave that you are running (such as 18A391)?
  • yes, it is my personal machine. my version is MacOs Majeve 10.14 (18A391)
  • I´ve got the same problem as will14m and typing "tccutil reset AppleEvents" in the terminal doesn´t work either.
  • What version of Word are you on?
  • word 2011 for mac
  • What exact version? E.g., 14.7.7
  • If you're using Word 2011 and you have anything before 14.7.7, you'll need to update to the latest and last version, which is 14.7.7.
  • Thank you @dstillman.

You were right, I didn´t update the Word to the 14.7.7. version. Now works!
