Zotero Simply Will Not Work

I have just tried to install Zotero for Chrome. It simply will not work. I cannot find anywhere to open it, righte-clicking on the icon at the top of my browser and selecting options tells me it is unavailable, and none of the troubleshooting or help lilnks are remotely helpful in the slightest. I need Zotero for a university assignment - the assignment requires Zotero, it is not merely to make citations easier - so I am getting quite desperate. I have created an account, logged in, etc., but I still can't seem to get anywhere with Zotero. If anyone could assist me, I would be extremely grateful.
  • Zotero is a desktop app, with a small connector you install in your web browser to connect the app to the browser. Install the app from zotero.org/download and be sure it is open when you save an item from the browser or try to insert a citation in Word.
  • I have tried that. It comes up with the icon in the top right hand corner of my browser screen, but the app does not appear anywhere on my desktop. Nor can I find it in File Explorer or by using a search function. It's like having a shortcut to an app without having the app itself present. I have tried restarting the computer several times, re-installing from the download screen, etc..

As @bwiernik said, Zotero is a desktop computer (or notebook computer) program that works in Linux, Mac, or Windows and is independent of your Chrome browser. It appears that you have only installed the Chrome connector (an add-on to chrome and Zotero). You also must install the main Zotero program.

    Go to the Zotero homepage:

    https://www.zotero.org/

and click the red "download" button.

If you need more information about installing Zotero see:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/installation

    and

    https://www.zotero.org/support/quick_start_guide

Open the application and go to the journal websites or databases you need to use. You say that already see the zotero import button so after you installed the program click that icon and your article metadata will automatically download o your new Zotero program. If this doesn't import the article metadata, install the browser connector again.

When you have accomplished that return here if you also need instructions on how to use Zotero with your word processor or read this:
