Word could not communicate with Zotero

Hi,

I have been using Zotero for a little while now and suddenly, mid-project, I have started to receive the following error message:

'Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure that Zotero is open and try again.'

I have tried reinstalling Zotero, restarting everything, I'm not using security software, I only have one user profile, add-on zotero is enabled (and i see the toolbar fine).

I'm using the latest version of zotero (5.0.55), Word for Mac 16.16, and am on a Mac (obviously). To reiterate, this started happening mid-way through working on a document that was previously working fine.

    If you go to Tools ā†’ Add-ons ā†’ Extensions in Zotero, do you see the Word for Mac integration plugin, and is it enabled?

    If it's disabled, enable it. If it's missing (which would be very strange), reinstall Zotero from zotero.org. (Your data won't be affected.)

    No, it's there and it's enabled.

    I assume it doesn't work in a new document either? Have you tried reinstalling the Word plugin under Zotero Preferences -> Cite -> Word Processors?

    I did that before and it didn't help. Having said that, it now appears to be working! Maybe it just needed a holiday?

    @chezcherie Please be more specific. Versions of your OS, Word, did any of the steps above produce any effect or error messages, etc.
