Can't generate bibliography. Help - final version of thesis due tomorrow...

Hi, after using Zotero for 4 years or so, I'm finally having problems the day before my thesis is due. The main problem is that Zotero seems unable to generate the bibliography for my 300 page thesis. It has done it before, months ago when I finished my draft, but now I wait almost 30 mins and it comes up with the following error:

Zotero experienced an error updating your document.

The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -1712.) @[displayAlert:document.m:186]

A few hours before this happened, Zotero was starting to behave strangely, randomly telling me that I had changed some citations and asking whether I wanted them to be updated. Other than that I've never had any problems until today.

I'm on a macbook pro, OS Sierra 10.12.6.

I'd really appreciate any ideas for how to fix this. Thanks!

Run through the debugging broken documents steps.

Note that the latest version of Word has slowed down the Zotero plugin significantly. People report faster Zotero word doc update times even when running Windows as a VM on MacBooks. So a last resort option is to try and generate this bibliography on a Windows machine if you can get access to one.
  • Hi adomasven, thanks for your advice. I tried many things on the debugging broken documents list (including, no tracked changes, no citations in captions, copying and pasting into a new doc etc). However, ultimately I got it to work on old mac with an old version of word and zotero!
I'm wondering if it might be a problem with the new operating system on mac.
    thanks!
