literary footnotes and primary sources

Through my paper I am referencing to literature with zotero, no problems with that. But, as i am writing a historical paper, I use a lot of primary sources. I insert them not through zotero but the numbering gets confused this way. I want zotero to count the manually inserted footnotes as well. Anobody got experience with this?

You can mix normal footnotes and zotero footnotes without a problem. To update the bibliography after inserting normal footnotes you need to click "refresh" in the Zotero tab.
  • That doesn't work. I am talking about footnotes/citations in the text, not on the bibliography. For example I have three citations, then I add a primary source manually (number 4) and with the next citation it doesn't follow up with five but there is a double 4 now.

If you are using Word's own footnote function (where it is depends on the version of Word, but in the latest versions it is under References -> Insert Footnote), then it should work as expected. If you are using a citation style like Vancouver what you are doing will not work (but then you would have problems with the bibliography too). Either way, you can add items into Zotero manually if they cannot be found online and cite those.
