ID: 48871892 Zotero Add-In gets stuck when trying to import a citation.

In the past two weeks or so, I cannot use my Zotero Add-In to import a citation footnote to my document. I can go as far as putting the document name in the Zotero Add in search bar and hitting Enter. That's it. The bar just continues to search and search. What should I do?

Thanks!
  • You will need to update to Zotero 5.0 and reinstall the Mac Word addon from Preferences -> Cite -> Document Processors

I'll try to do that now. Thank you!
  • I upgraded Zotero, which is great. I tried to install the addon manually (after installing the Java Development kit). I don't know if the one for LibreOffice would work on Mac Word (I'm assuming not, but I don't know much about these things), but I now have a Zotero.dotm file and the Zotero_OpenOffice_Integration.oxt file in the Startup Word folder.

A Zotero tab appears on my Word toolbar, but I now get: “Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure Zotero is running and try again.” Is there any way to fix that?
  • Oh, sorry about that. The Word Plugin sometimes gets disabled and we haven't figured out why. In Zotero go to Tools -> Add-ons and enable the Word extension, then go into Preferences -> Cite -> Word Processors and reinstall the Word plugin.

I tried to enable it earlier too, but there is no such option, unfortunately. There is a warning in yellow stating that: "Zotero Word for Mac Integration is incompatible with Zotero 5.0.41." The only option is to remove. I tried looking for updates, but it didn't find any. It shows Libreoffice and Better Bib(La)Tex active.
  • You should remove the current extension that you have and restart Zotero. You probably have an old version installed from 4.0 (which you should never have done for Zotero Standalone in the first place). Once you remove it an updated version should show up under Add-ons that you may need to re-enable.
  • Works! Thank you very very much.
