Zotero - citation is undefined

I can no longer add a citation to my word document. "Zotero experienced an error updating your document. citation is undefined' is reported ...

please can you help.

I am working on a Mac if that is of any relevance.
My IT skills are appalling so please reply in style of Zotero for dummies ;-)
