Do Zotero and Mendeley use the same CSL-editor, CSL-files etc.?

Hi,

Can I use the same CSL-file to install a style in both Zotero and Mendeley?

Do I use the same CSL-editor and edit the style in the same way, no matter if I intend to install the file in Zotero or Mendeley? For example, could I follow these instructions, even if I use Zotero?: https://www.mendeley.com/guides/csl-editor/04-example-modifying-et-al-usage

Basically, are there any differences?

    yes. You can use .csl in both programmes (and many more).

    The only thing is that I'd use the non-Mendeley version of the editor at http://editor.citationstyles.org/
    I think we update it more frequently and it produces default style IDs instead of ones customized for Mendeley. It works exactly the same though.

    Zotero and Mendeley mapped some items (variables) to the different CSL variables. It is really the very rare situation, but some styles can produce a little different output.
