emacs for notes

I'm very impressed with Zotero so far! I have a question about default applications for opening attachments in Linux.

I would like to keep notes files as plain text attachments with the suffix .org (for org-mode), and I would like these to open with emacs instead of the default text editor, which is gedit.

I tried changing this in the Firefox preferences, and now Firefox opens all .org files with emacs, but Zotero still will still open the attachment in gedit.

How does Zotero determine what application to open an attachment with? How can I change this?

Thanks!

Files that don't have content types that can be handled by Firefox either natively or with a plugin are simply launched via the OS. Configuring this on Linux is generally quite convoluted and difficult and varies by distro. This isn't really a Zotero issue, but there've been various threads about it, including this one.
